Sprint 2: Data Cleaning, Spinning Heads & Study Notes

Sprint 2 of my Data Science journey with ALX just wrapped up — and let me just say: it was intense.

This sprint was all about preparing data — cleaning it, formatting it, understanding distributions, learning about probability, and diving into statistical testing like t-tests, z-tests, and something called… Kurtosis? Kubo-something? Sorry, Kolmogorov–Smirnov test (I’m still trying to pronounce it). Honestly, by the time we hit those advanced testing algorithms, my brain was doing somersaults. 😩

What started off pretty easy quickly escalated into “Wait… what now?” I had to call in reinforcements (thank you, Gemini 😅) to help break some concepts down further. And yes, it helped.

Giving Back While Learning

One of the highlights of this sprint for me was how much more I contributed in my learning groups. I found myself explaining concepts to others, especially those coming from non-tech backgrounds. I even started a study note where I simplify what we’re learning — not just for myself, but to help others too.

Seeing people message me things like “Ohhh, now I get it!”, “It makes sense now!” has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey so far. It’s one thing to learn; it’s another thing entirely to help someone else learn.

Our First Project

We also completed our first project, which pulled everything together. It was on one of the SDGs and while it wasn’t easy, I can genuinely say I’m starting to understand things better now, not just theoretically, but practically too.

Between the sprint content and personal deadlines, this week stretched me hard. But I’ve noticed something: my time management skills are getting stronger. Balancing this course with my full-time work and side projects is a challenge, but I’m slowly finding my rhythm.

What’s Next?

Sprint 3 is all about SQL, something I already have some experience with, so I’m really looking forward to it. Hoping I can breathe a little this round but who knows? 😅

As we always say at ALX: #DoHardThings — and that’s exactly what I’m doing.
