Whew. Week 1 of my Data Science (ML) journey with ALX is officially done — and if I had to sum it up in one word, it would be: busy. Like Monday to Sunday, round-the-clock busy.
What We Covered
This week focused on the basics of data — what data is, how we extract it, and what it takes to be a good data professional. It sounds like a lot (and okay, it kind of is), but thankfully the material was manageable. It’s a two-week module, but I powered through and wrapped it up by the Monday of Week 2.
One surprising (and kind of nostalgic) part?
We revisited flowcharts and pseudocode — tools I haven’t touched since secondary school and my first year in university. It was weirdly satisfying to return to those foundational concepts with fresh eyes.
We also explored problem-solving strategies — learning how to break down problems logically and structure our thinking before jumping into code. It reminded me that before models, data, and fancy algorithms, the real magic starts with clear, methodical thinking.
The Test & The Finish Line
I ended the module with a short test — and I passed!
Not going to lie, I was nervous about it after such a packed week, but it felt good to officially close out the first sprint on a high note.
Looking Ahead
I’m excited for what’s next, but more than anything… I need sleep. This past week reminded me that balancing a full-time job, side projects, and a course like this is no joke. So yes, catching up on rest is on the to-do list before diving into Sprint 2.
One week down — let’s see what the next one brings!
